Ingredients for Pie Crust:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup ice water

How to Make Pie Crust:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add the cold butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add the ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
  4. Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a disk. Wrap the disks in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  5. Roll out one disk of dough on a lightly floured surface to fit your pie dish. Trim any excess dough from the edges.
  6. Fill the pie with your desired filling.
  7. Roll out the second disk of dough and use a knife or cookie cutters to create decorative designs. Place the designs on top of the filling.
  8. Bake the pie according to your recipe’s instructions.

About the Main Ingredients:

  • Flour: Provides structure and texture to the pie crust.
  • Butter: Adds flavor and flakiness to the crust.
  • Water: Binds the dough together. Using cold water helps keep the butter cold, which is important for a flaky crust.
